Football Nursery 2012
The Football Nursery programme started in March 2012 to facilitate the inclusion of the younger members of our community. Boys and girls from the age of four are welcome and sessions take place every Saturday from 10am on our new AstroTurf facility. Participants learn the basic skills of Gaelic football with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment through sport. It is a thoroughly enjoyable programme which seeks to aid the social and physical development of children, preparing them for future participation in competitive sport.
The Football Nursery allows mentors to plan training sessions that are more beneficial to the needs of a particular ability group. The initial focus of the nursery is on Agility, Balance and Co-ordination where children become aware of their own ability. After the children have mastered these initial skills it enables those basic skills to be enhanced and advanced for participation in the next level within the club.
In light of the growth in the number of nursery programmes established within the county, through liasing with other mentors, it is hoped to have some friendly matches between local clubs in the near future. (This will apply to those in the advanced grouping) It is expected to give participants the opportunity to experience match settings and will also enable them to have a definitive purpose within training sessions.
