Kilmainhamwood GFC : Healthy Club Policy

Kilmainhamwood GFC is committed to creating a Healthy Club environment that is inviting to all and which promotes the integration of healthy behaviours into our everyday activities. The club is committed to promoting health and well-being amongst our members and the wider community. On the 24/08/2018, our Chairperson — Alan Carolan, signed our "Kilmainhamwood GFC Healthy Club" statement to begin our journey to becoming a Healthy Club.
The Healthy Club Model was developed with support from Healthy Ireland, the HSE, the national office for Suicide Prevention and a CSR investment by Irish Life. Two test phases were successfully completed by a total of 74 clubs to date - 16 clubs in 2013/2015 and 58 clubs in 2015/2017 and it is our intention to be included in test Phase 3, due to be launched shortly. Once accepted our community will be invited to have their say in Kilmainhamwood GFC Healthy Club Policy.
In preparation to becoming a Healthy Club, we will adopt our Healthy Club Statement during our "La na gClubanna" which is to be hosted at our club grounds on 16/09/2018. During our "La na Clubanna", we will introduce two of the Healthy club initiatives — Healthy Eating & Smoke Free Club.
Our "Smoke Free Club Policy" aims to protect the health of all individuals involved with the club, by keeping them safe from all tobacco related harm, From the 16/09/2018 we will promote a "smoke free campus" as indicated by new signage on entry to playing pitch & Astro-Turf and in Club and Social meeting rooms, changing rooms and toilets.
Our "Healthy Eating Policy" aims to create a supportive environment in which it promotes healthy eating for all its members and the wider community. To kick off our "La na gClubanna", on 16/09/2018, all members and the wider community are invited to share a selection healthy treats before the games begin.
This is a great opportunity to transform the health of our community, strengthen our club and its bonds within the community let the journey begin! For more information visit www.gaa.ie/my-gaa/community-and-health or come speak to our Healthy Club Officer, Bernadette Finnegan.
