Family Sports Day : Sunday 15th September 2019

Picture
A great day was had by all at our annual sports day. Thanks to all who organised and helped out.

Special thanks to Donal Keogan for presenting the kids with their trophies and medals.

The rain didn't dampen the spirits of our youngsters who entertained us with wonderful football matches.

End of Year Juvenile Trip & Presentation 2018

The Kilmainhamwood GFC Juvenile 2018 End of Year Trip & Presentation took place on Saturday 15th December 2018.

A great days craic was had at Carlingford Adventure Centre and I think the coaches enjoyed it just as much as the kids … with the winners hotly contended.

At 5pm everyone gathered in Keogan’s for food and presentations of the U14, U15, U16 and U17 medals. Disco and traditional Irish music was played long into the night with everyone having a great time.

Well done to all involved in Juvenile football as we continue to implement the 10-year plan.

Child Safeguarding Information Seminar

Email from Micheal Mac Beineid, Oifig na bPaisti, Coiste Na Mi
A Chara Runai,

Please see below communication from Croke Park which is self explanatory. In particular please note the specifics of the Association's new Underage Code of Behaviour. Please arrange to upload same to your Club Website. If you require any further clarification please revert to myself and I will do what I can to assist. You will shortly receive an updated list of persons in your Club who hold a Garda Vetting Certificate.

Email from Gearóid Ó Maoilmhichíl, GAA National Children's Officer.
Dear County Children's Officer,
Can we first of all thank all of you who were in attendance at our Child Safeguarding Information Seminar on Saturday last in Croke Park.  We had a great attendance and a full agenda and I am sure that all present benefited greatly from the many inputs and the on-going discussions that took place during the day.

As agreed please find attached the slides from our plenary workshop sessions.

Could we ask of all County Children's Officer that you inform us, as soon as it is known, if you will be continuing in your role next year. While all such decision may not yet be known we have in recent years built up a strong and committed cohort of County Children's Officers and we would like to maintain as many of the current incumbents as the role continues to be central in the delivery of our code of behaviour and other child centered policy documents.

Code of Behaviour (Underage)

This is the link to the newly launched Code of Behaviour (Underage) and I would request that you forward the link to whoever may be in charge of your County website seeking that they upload the code and display it in a prominent place on the website.
http://res.cloudinary.com/dvrbaruzq/image/upload/kpvdgvxkkdnbqkxl8ypv.pdf

We are placing a major emphasis on the Code of Behaviour for the commencement of the new Club year and we ask you to do likewise.  County Children's Officers should be familiar with the contents of the Code and should encourage each Club to upload it, without amendment, on to their own Club websites.  There is no need whatsoever for a Club to go writing their own Code. We have a Code agreed between each of the Gaelic Games Associations and that is the Code as referred to in rule.  If a case is taken regarding a breach of a Club Code as opposed to the Gaelic Games Associations' Code it cannot be taken as per the guidance for Dealing with Breaches of the Code of Behaviour as that document is drafted  solely in the context of the Gaelic Games Associations' Code.
Please inform your Clubs that the revised Code contains a new legally proofed Child/Youth Membership form, the contents of which Clubs are advised to use in 2019.

Any changes to the Code during the year will appear on www.gaa.ie through the above link.

Kilmainhamwood GFC Family Sports Day Sunday 16th September 2018

Picture
Kilmainhamwood GFC Family Sports Day took place on Sunday 16th September 2018. The weather stayed dry and warm and the grounds looked immaculate and well appointed.

Chairman Alan Carolan welcomed everyone and encouraged them to enjoy the day. Alan launched the Healthy Club Program and handed the microphone over to Healthy Club Officer, Bernadette Finnegan. Bernie explained the Smoke-free Policy and Healthy Eating Policy and directed everyone to our website at http://www.kilmainhamwoodgfc.com/healthy-club.html for more information. Once the opening ceremony was complete, everyone was offered a hearty bowl of soup and healthy brown bread. The Irish dancers kept everyone entertained during the tasty starter.

Once everyone finished their soup and the Irish Dancers had received warm applause, the football commenced. The day started with six U8 – U12 mixed teams playing on three pitches for the Matthew Cunningham Cup. Each team played each other with the top two reaching the final. Timmy’s Tigers took-on the Wood Warriors in a well-contested final with Timmy’s Tigers prevailing. The cup was presented by Charlie Cunningham and Meath footballer Mickey Newman. Thanks to referees Keith & Oisín Reilly, Ronan Cassidy, Darragh Smith, & Trevor Murray.

The Kilmainhamwood 1996 senior champions strapped-up and togged-out in what looked like a Reeling-in-the-Years game against the current panel. Dan Breen was the referee and went easy on the 1996 auld fellas. The game was played in good spirit for the most part and the final result will be debated long into the future.

The U14 & U16’s  played a match to show off the talents that brought such silverware to the club this year. The U14 girls match was also a great match with the girls showing that anything the boys can do, the girls can do. There was loads of novelty races and everyone enjoyed them.

Meath Legend Brian Stafford was in attendance on the day and posed for a photo with Meath minor Leinster Cup winner Niall Bennett and Meath U16 Gerry Reilly Cup winner Brian Cassidy. Hopefully Niall and Brian can go on to match the achievements of Kilmainhamwood’s greatest ever son.

The Bake-off was judged by the new parish priest and there was adult and junior winners. The traditional Irish music went down a treat too and the Soak-the-coach was a lot of fun. Pets Corner was another attraction that entertained the gathered crowd. There was food aplenty all day with burgers & sausages, milk & water, fruits & salads and tea & coffee with everyone being well-fed.

During the closing ceremony the winners of the raffle were:-
  • 1st prize  : One entry into Meath house draw      : Emma O’Donnell
  • 2nd prize : Cross Guns €50 voucher                     :  Adele Fitzpatrick
  • 3rd place : Crystal Maze one week membership   : Conall Shankey-smith
  • 4th place : Gym an Rí classes                                : Shane Clarke

A day like this doesn’t just happen, it takes a huge amount of work. Paddy Clarke was the main organizer and deserves a huge amount of credit. Chairman Alan Carolan and Secretary Pauline Reilly were by his side all day. Loads of people made the day possible and the risk of listing people is that someone may be left out accidentally but special thanks to Aidan and Bernie Finnegan, Stephen and AnnMarie Smith, Shirley Owens, Ray and Niamh Madden, Liam Vaughan, Damien Cunningham, Richard Gillespie, Marion Gilcreest, Trevor Murray, Robbie Rooney, Paul Carolan and Jude Collins. Thanks to Christo Shankey and Cathal Bennett for having the pitch looking so well.

U8 & U10 : Trip to Lilliput Adventure Centre : Saturday 14th October 2017

On the 14th October 2017 the U-8s & U-10s headed off to Lilliput Adventure Centre in Co Westmeath for their end of season trip.

Twenty nine players made it onto the bus – unfortunately Cillian Burns and Michael Finnegan were ruled out by sickness and injury.

The kids had a packed day of activities including orienteering, wall climbing, canoeing & their favourite bog hopping!!!  All the kids had a wet, mucky & very enjoyable day.

Thanks to all the mentors – Pauline, Damien, Robbie, John, Frank, Trevor & Liam for giving so much of their time to both teams during the season.

The Zone : Monday 30th October 2017

Kilmainhamwood u12s & u14s ended their football year with a day out at “The Zone” in Navan. The kids enjoyed indoor go karting and laser tag followed by some grub. A great day was had by all.

A big thank you to Ray Madden and Richie Gillespie for organizing the outing and looking after the kids on the day!

Lá na club 2017

Saturday 26th August we were blessed with a lovely sunny day for our Club Day.  It was all hands on deck, work started early in the club getting pitches laid out, marquees erected, bbqs stoked and burcos boiling.  The Wood Warrior run kicked off at 10am and circa a 100 people completed the gruelling course.  Thanks to all the players who stewarded the course.

Players arrived promptly at the club at 1.30 and were split into the 6 teams.  The teams were Muddogs, Dingos, Sharks, Pumas, Lions & Minions.  The managers were appointed  - Niall Conlon, Keith Reilly, Bernard Reilly, Anna Cunningham, Sheana O'Donnell & Declan Reilly.  The U-14s played in goal while the U-8s, 10s & 12s played outfield in one of three zones.  Each player got to play in defence midfield and forward during each match.  Our referees were Gerry Owens, Richard Gillespie and Trevor Murray.  They were under severe pressure to keep up with the fast paced play and some struggled with the movement between zones (not mentioning names...Richard!)   There was some lovely team play and passing among the different age groups.  It was great for all age groups to be able to play together on the pitch at the same time.  Each team played three games and the finalist were decided by the cumulative points scored during the three games. It was a close call but the Minions led by Declan Reilly and the Sharks led by Bernard Reilly came out on top.  This lead to great rivalry in the final as the two brothers went head to head.  At the end of the day the Minions came out on top and were well deserved winners. They were presented with their winners medals and the Matthew Cunningham Perpetual Cup by the club chairman Alan Carolan and Matthew's Dad Charlie Cunningham.

It was not all football on the day with Fun Races/ Games held for all ages from U-6 to U-14. The U-14s & 16s competed in a Kick Fada which was won by Kian Gillespie.   And in the tug of war Grace Cunningham lead her team to victory with the best smile of the day.

Everybody was well fed by the burgers cooked to perfection by Aidan & Michael and kindly donated by Supervalu and the cakes and buns submitted by all those hoping to be Star Baker!  This was a hotly contested competition and the judge especially brought in from Dublin struggled to choose one winner.  This honour was won by Lorraine Rogers for her fabulous ( I'm quoting the judge) pavlova and in Lorraine's own words will be proudly displayed on her mantlepiece.

All kids were presented with medals and all left with a smile on their faces.  The day concluded with our prize draw.

Thanks to all who helped make the day a success - Aidan & Bernie Finnegan, Richard Gillespie, Stephen& Annemarie Smyth, Pauline Reilly, Frank Halpenny, The Corballys, Trevor & Sandra Murray, Gerry & Shirley  Owens, The Russells,  Siobhan Bennett, Annemarie Cassidy, Colm Gilcreest,  Liam & Orla Vaughan, Michael Connolly, Fergal McKenna, Francie Owens, Martina O'Donnell, Ashling Cassidy, John & Fiona Keoghan, Mary Stafford, Alan Carolan, Charlie Cunningham, Ray & Niamh Madden and our face painters Sally Anne, Naoise & Louise. Apologises if I have left anyone out.

Child Welfare – Club and County

Child Welfare and Protection
The Association and its sister organisations recently launched (September 2015) online version of Our Games - Our Code, the joint Code of Best Practice in Youth Sport. This Code has been agreed between the GAA, the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, the Camogie Association, GAA Handball Ireland and the Rounders Council of Ireland.

The Code replaces all previous Codes and is a mandatory Code of Best Practice for all Gaelic Games Associations in our work with underage players. It is a comprehensive good practice guidance publication and we are anxious that as many players, coaches, parents and other Club personnel have immediate access to its contents.

Read more at http://www.gaa.ie/the-gaa/child-welfare-and-protection/

GAA Code of Behaviour
This Code of Behaviour (Underage) complements the Irish Sports Council (ISC) Code of Ethics and Our Games - Our Code, the joint Code of Best Practice in Youth Sport and addresses the appropriate levels of behaviour, practice and conduct required from our young players, officials, coaches, trainers, mentors, supporters, parents/guardians and clubs.

Download the sixth edition of the GAA Code of Behaviour, Underage. This is the most recent edition as of November 2016 - our code forms part of 'Our Games - Our Code.'

Dealing with Allegations of AbuseThe Gaelic Athletic Association is committed to creating and maintaining the safest possible environment for all young people who participate in our Gaelic Games and activities. We shall take all practical steps to protect young people from discernable forms of abuse - from harm, discrimination or degrading treatment and shall respect their rights, wishes and feelings.

The GAA believes that the welfare of the child is paramount and recognises that all children have the right to be safe and that this fundamental principal takes precedence over all other considerations.

‘Children have the right to be protected from all forms of violence; they must be kept safe from harm, and they must be given proper care by those looking after them’ (Article 19: UN Convention on the Rights of the Child).

Kilmainhamwood GFC U8 & U10 vs. Round Towers 13th April 2013

Picture
Kilmainhamwood Gfc U10’s got their 2013 campaign off to a winning start will a hard-earned victory over Round Towers on Saturday 13th April 2013 at a well-appointed Kilmainhamwood.

The men from the ‘Wood were fast out of the blocks and following a lovely flowing move notched up the first point of the match following good work from Cillian Plunkett, Kian Gillespie & finished off by Rian Stafford. Then Pavilas Cesiunas did very well to win the ball at corner back and pass it onto Jack Gillespie who found Seán Bennett who wrong-footed his marker and slotted over. Seán replicated the same move on a number of occasions and was coolness personified as he split the post on many occasions. At the back Killian Russell grew in confidence and plucked a lovely high ball from the sky (making his daddy very proud) to start another attack with Oisín Reilly & Max Farrelly leading this challenge. Eoin Rooney then got in on the act with a few well taken scores. Kaylem Russell in the goals was rock solid mopping up any loose ball on the square and finding his outward runners with pin-point accuracy. At half-time the lads took a well-earned break and listened intently to the words of wisdom from coaches Shane Russell & John Bennett.

For the second half Kian Gillespie was rested and swapped with Kaylem Russell in the goals. Kaylem used his abundance of energy to cover every blade of grass from box to box. Max Farrelly was on hand to punch to the net as the ‘Wood men piled on the pressure. At the back Killian Russell & Cillian Plunkett were patrolling the square and snuffing out any danger posed by the Round Tower forwards. Jack Gillespie and Pavilas Ceniunas were the link men from defense to attack with Kaylem Russell acting as the runner. In attack Oisin Reilly worked tirelessly with Rian Stafford as brave as a lion. Eoin Rooney was illusive as ever with Seán Bennett out-foxing the opposition with intelligent runs.

At full time both teams lined up and shook hands and thanked each other. Thanks to Adrian Corcoran & Round Towers for a competitive sporting match.

U10 Team : Kaylem Russell, Kian Gillespie, Cillian Plunkett, Pavilas Cesiunas, Jack Gillespie, Killian Russell, Eoin Rooney, Oisin Reilly, Rian Stafford, Seán Bennett, Max Farrelly,

The U8’s also took on their Round Towers counterparts all played well
U8 Team : Ronan Cassidy, Cian Owens, Darragh Smith, Killian Bennett, Eóin Finnegan, Colin Plunkett, Noah Madden, Declan Burns

Shane Russell & Juvenile Committee
